The City University Malaysia was invited by the Ministry of Science and Technology to attend the Malaysia Innovation Conference 2022 on the 2nd and 3rd August 2022 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MiTEC), Kuala Lumpur. The City University provided five representatives both from the Research Management Centre and the City Graduate School to attend the conference.
On the first day of the conference, the event begun with the speech and official launching provided by our Prime Minister, YAB Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Then, the conference followed a plenary session with guest speakers:
- Dato’ Ts V Valluvan Veloo, Director, Manufacturing, Science and Technology Industry Division, Economic Planning Unit, the Prime Minister’s Department.
- Mahendhiran Sanggaran Nair, Pro. Vice President, Sunway University.
- Representative, National Research Foundation (NRF), Singapore.
- Representative, Research, National Research and Innovation Agency Indonesia (BRIN)
- james Kuo, Deputy General Director of the Industry, Science, Technology and International Strategy Center of Industrial Technology Research Institute Taiwan (ITRI).
During lunch, the compact talk sessions were conducted with the SME Corp and Invest KL. Next, for the evening session, the conference followed a focused discussion session with respective organization and topic as follows:
Session 1: 2.30pm-3.30pm
- Kementerian Pembangunan Usahawan dan Koperasi (KUSKOP) with the topic Inovasi Memperkasa PMKS – Kelestarian
- Kementerian Pertanian dan Industri Makanan (MAFI) with the topic Asam Garam Inovasi: Refleksi Inovasi Sektor Agromakanan
- Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) with the topic Malaysia berdaya Huni – Sejauh Manakah Kita Berdaya Huni?
- Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT) with the topic Kolaborasi Akademia dan Industri
Session 2: 4.00pm-5.00pm
- Kementerian Pembangunan Usahawan dan Koperasi (KUSKOP) with the topic Inovasi Memperkasa PMKS – Wanita
- Kementerian Pertanian dan Industri Makanan (MAFI) with the topic Pertanian Pintar untuk Masa Depan
- Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) with the topic Ekonomi Kitaran: Di Manakah Kita?
- Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT) with the topic Kolaborasi Akademia dan Industri
On the next and last day of the Malaysia Innovation Conference 2022, the event begun with the welcoming speech by YBhg. Datuk Seri Saiful Anuar bin Lebai Hussen, Ketua Pengarah, Unit Perancang Ekonomi, Jabatan Perdana Menteri.
Then, the second plenary session was conducted. The session was conducted by organizations from Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTI), Kementerian Belia dan Sukan (KBS), the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) and the Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd.
In the evening, the focused discussion sessions were conducted with various organisations with their respective topic as follows:
- Kementerian Tenaga dan Sumber Asli (KeTSA) with the topic Pemerkasaan Inovasi Akar Umbi dan Pengetahuan Tradisi ke Arah Pembanguan Mampan.
- Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI) with the topic Pengkomersialan R&D – Technopreneurs
- Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT) with the topic Merakyatkan Penyelidikan serta Inovasi Masyarakat Setempat
We also visited the exhibition and managed to obtain valuable information about research and innovations that will benefit the community in next few months and the future. Attending the conference provided crucial insights and networking opportunities for City University Malaysia especially in research, innovation and commercialization aligning with the focus of providing back to the community and the country.
